The Genocide in Darfur is one of the great disasters of our time, and it’s one we can do our part to help end it. A divestment campaign would help raise the profile of this shocking outrage in the media and in the minds of students, as well as help to discourage business from doing business with a regime which aids the killing rape and displacement of the population it is meant to protect, hurting them where we can hurt them the most; their wallets.
This is the issue of our generation, it is as important to do something about Darfur as it was to call for an end to apartheid, it deserves our attention as much as any Genocide of modern times, and it is something that we find morally repulsive. In association with Divestment UK, Amnesty on Campus and Aegis Students we hope to help bring an end to this conflict with you’re help
The Liberal Democrats believe that education should be free and access available to all without fear of debt: A better educated population benefits us all, lifts families out of poverty and enables people to achieve their best. The Liberal Democrats are about tearing down the barriers to equality of opportunity, by ensuring that only those who can afford to take on huge amounts of debt can go to University worry free, Tuition and Top Up fees help entrench inequality.
Homophobia is Gay!
A 14-year old girl, after disclosing to a friend she might be a lesbian, was forced by the PE teacher to sit outside the changing rooms before and after sports lessons until the “normal” children have changed.
A boy who came out when he was 12 was persecuted at school as a consequence. He had a camp way of speaking and walking, which the other children didn’t like. “People would put up signs saying I had
Aids, that I was a dirty, HIV faggot and not to go near me. I was punched and kicked.”
Homophobic bullying in education is unacceptable. Every Student has a right to attend school or university without fear of being bullied harassed or intimidated. It is the responsibility of all of us to take a stand against bullying in our university and stand
with anyone who is discriminated against.
The liberal democrats take a stand against bullying and we do not tolerate discrimination on any grounds, be it sex, or race, religion, culture or sexual preference. The Liberal Democrats believe we are all of equal worth, and should be protected as such. This campaign highlights that commitment.
