The Society
The University of Birmingham Liberal Democrat society is one of the youngest political societies on campus, this being our second year. We’re active on campus, campaigning on the issues that matter to students, raising awareness through leafleting, direct action, and socials, and having a good time whilst we do it to boot.
This year, we’ve run events and campaigns against tuition and top up fees, and against homophobic bullying; at the moment we’re mobilising a divestment for Darfur campaign, to do our part in trying to end the Genocide in this corner of Africa. The society meets weekly in Joe’s bar of the Guild, at 5.30pm every Monday. Get in touch with us at libdem@guild.bham.ac.uk to hear more about events or if you want to join the society or the party, or head to the Basement in the Guild and ask at the desk for a membership form, or put a note in our pigeon hole.
Political engagement isn’t something that should be left to the mad, bad and sad. The decisions made in our name, be it in Parliament, or in our student union, affect us all. Politics is about having a say in how you’re life is run, so speak up and have you’re say.
